Actually this week, I was asked by a patient, can allergies cause permanent damage to my eyes?
And the great news is for most of us...allergies do not cause any permanent damage, but for some of those chronic or severe cases where they're chronically rubbing their eye from the itchiness, that can cause the cornea to warp a bit or to even scar.
And that scarring that warping will affect your vision.
Also, patients find that with chronic allergy, sometimes their light sensitivity will increase.
So you don't have to wear sunglasses more often than they used to.
But again, like I said, most of the time, these are really, really rare.
